Wiener Neustadt returns to the World Championship with Bou leading and Busto back at a winning venue
The Austrian town of Wiener Neustadt and its Arena Nova will host the sixth round of the FIM X-Trial World Championship this Saturday from 18:30 (local time). The event returns to this venue for the first time since 2023, when Jaime Busto (GasGas) claimed victory by a narrow margin of just two points over Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Trial Team).
Toni Bou arrives in Wiener Neustadt leading the Championship with a 31-point advantage over Busto, with three rounds still to go. However, the competition remains open, as the rule allowing riders to drop their worst result at the end of the season gives the GasGas rider a chance to close the gap at a venue where he already knows what it takes to win.
Meanwhile, Gabriel Marcelli (Repsol Honda Trial Team) aims to reduce the 13-point gap separating him from Busto and establish himself as a consistent podium finisher and title contender. His adaptation to the Sprint format in Q2 cost him valuable points in the early rounds, but he is now looking to turn things around. Additionally, France’s Bincaz (Sherco) is targeting his third final of the 2025 season, hoping to reclaim a podium spot after finishing in the top three in the last two rounds of the previous season.
Joining them will be several riders who have not competed in all five rounds so far but are eager to make their mark in Austria. Among them are Alex Canales (Montesa), who debuted in Stavanger with a fourth-place finish; Matteo Grattarola (Beta), currently sixth in the Championship standings; and Britain’s Jack Peace (Sherco), returning to the Championship after making his debut in Madrid. Also lining up is local rider Marco Mempör (TRRS), looking to build on his 2023 experience and improve on his ninth-place finish from that event.
All the riders will face a demanding and thrilling event featuring six sections in Q1 and the Final, as well as three sections in Q2 and the Superpole.
